Versus

This June's VERSUS event was such a great experience for all involved; a cross-discipline endeavor that I feel proud to have been a part of.

Our musicians, Laura Giannini and Josuè Pagan wrote pieces of music that drew from the work of the visual artists, and while the musical duo played, dancers from SHIFT collective responded to both the music and visual work. The song written to my work, The Hungarian may be heard below, to which Jordan Anderson did an incredible iprovisation.  While this was going on, I set up my canvas and paints to respond to the entire situation.

Wolkoff then graced us with a few songs, and the night ended with a performance of Danny White's one-man-show Who's the DJ

Many thanks again to Ilaria Bochicchio and Creators Collective for organizing such a memorable event!

TIPHAINE

SYLVAIN & TIPHAINE VAN DE SYPE met in their early twenties while studying fine arts. Tiphaine graduated from La Cambre with a degree in Fashion design. Sylvain graduated from l’ESAT with a degree in Architecture. He later studied photography at the Beaux-Arts of Brussels as well.
They both have seasoned aesthetic tastes and strong artistic eyes developed through studies and professional experiences. They studied arts and applied arts in school. Tiphaine went on to work at renown fashion companies such as Balenciaga and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Sylvain went on to start his own architecture business working with architecture companies and clients such as the Accor hotel group, Evian and Arnaud Lagardère.
In 2013 they moved to New York for work. After two years there, they decided to leave and embark on a year-long journey travelling the world.
They traveled simply and freely, on their own with each other and two backpacks. The purpose was to own their time again meet people by chance and to spend time with them with no agenda. Photography became the way they wanted to document and share this journey. HacheTague Magazine was published on line every month. The photography is here to elicit emotion, a smell, a word, a perspective through a selection of images and stories.
The infinite freedom of expression, art, called for them naturally upon their return to New York. Artistic expression is a necessity for them, a necessity to imagine, to conjure experiences, to create concepts. This is why they decided to dedicate their life to art and open their art studio in Brooklyn, where they can express themselves. bvdsstudio.com
